Progress Report: Words Written, Maps Drawn, Sanity Questioned 🗺️⚔️

Fellow readers and witnesses to my adventures,

Quick update from the writing trenches, where I’m juggling projects like a bard with too many flaming torches and questionable life insurance.

Riding a Pale Hobby Horse: The Numbers

I’ve now drafted 21 of the planned 27 chapters for Book 2 in The Adventures of Dirk & Felix! We’re in the home stretch, folks. Dirk & Felix continue to poke fun at each other, P.O.O.P.E.R. is reaching peak absurdity, and main villian has finally been exposed (sorry, no spoilers).

Six more chapters and this manuscript gets unleashed upon my poor, unsuspecting editor.

Astrography: Because Apparently, I Needed Another Hobby

Meanwhile, I’ve been deep in the weeds working on the astrography (yes, that’s a real word, I checked) for the “Out of the Cold” universe. Turns out when you’re writing military sci-fi and planning a sequel, you actually need to know where the planets are, how long it takes to travel between them, and which star systems will make good battlegrounds.

Who knew space required this much math?

I am reminded of my Astrospace classes studying for my Aerospace Engineering Degree, so I should have known better all along.

This groundwork is essential for both the upcoming David Carter short story and the sequel to “Out of the Cold.” Future me will thank present me for not just making things up as I go. Probably. Maybe. We’ll see.

The Big Picture

So, here’s where things stand:

  • Riding a Pale Hobby Horse: 21/27 chapters drafted (almost there!)

  • Out of the Cold universe: Star maps and astrography in progress (because space is complicated)

  • My sanity: Holding steady at questionable levels

Progress is happening, even if it sometimes feels like I’m writing one book while planning three others. Which, technically, I am.

Reviews genuinely help, and I promise I read every single one while grinning like an idiot.

How do you feel about authors who obsessively build star maps instead of just winging it? Asking for a friend. That friend is me.

P.S. Astrography is indeed a real word. I had to look it up three times to be sure, but it counts. Space geography. Who knew?
